The Maroon Bells

This is a shot I honestly never thought I'd get to take, for one reason or another. I remember planning this trip for weeks with my best friends. We decided we wanted to go on a road trip to the place within 10-15 hours where we could take the coolest outdoor picture possible. We contemplated multiple locations such as Grand Falls near Flag Staff, AZ. Finally, we decided on Colorado. Prior to taking this shot I have driven roughly 10 hours, switching on and off with my friends, and had hiked over 5 miles at elevation. But the serenity at the base of Maroon Lake was like no other. I was initially disappointed that the spring foliage hadn't come in yet, but the left-over snow and incoming snowstorm added a unique drama that I hadn't seen in very many shots from this location.
